An atom consists of electrons, protons and neutrons while the electrons are negatively charged, an atom is still considered to be stable as the number of electrons is equal to that of the number of protons this thus neutralises the negative effect of the electron and an atom is thus said to be stable.

Electrons are negatively charged with a charge of 1.6 × 10^-19, while protons are positively charged with exactly same positive charge i.e. 1.6 × 10^-19 and finally neutrons as by name, are neutral, without any charge so this makes an atom electrically neutral.
