Yes,mendeleev's suggestion was correct.

Because,first we have taken hydrogen as the standard to find the masses of different elements but it don't give us the correct value of masses of different elements.Then we have taken oxygen as our standard then we face the same problem.At last,we have taken 12 isotope at carbon,as our standard.By this we get the correct value of masses of different elements.
