Concept: Basic chemistry, Structure of atoms

Given that: Atomic number is 17 and Atomic mass is 35,

Find: the number the of electron, proton and neutrons,

Solution:

  • We know that atomic number equal(Z) to number of protons (P) is equal to electron (e)

                  Z=P=e,

  • we know that Atomic mass is equal to addition of atomic number and neutrons(N),

                       Z^{}+N=A

        Number of neutrons,N^{}=A-Z

therefor,

        this is chlorine atom because atomic no is given 17,

        No of protons(P)=17,   (from Z=P=e)

        No of electrons(e)=17,

        No of neutrons(N)= A^{}-Z,

                         N=35^{}-17,\\ N=18,

Final Answer: Number of protons=17, Number of electrons=17 and number of neutrons=18,

                            Fig: Atomic structure of chlorine
