The element with atomic number 16 is Sulphur.
Electronic configuration is:
K. L. M
2. 8. 6
Another method of electronic configuration is:
1s² 2s² 2p^6 3s² 3p^4
Valence electron is 2+4=6
Valency=8-Valence electron
=8-6
=2
