SF6 has 6 sigma bonds between Sulpur and Flourine atoms and no lone pair is left. So hybridisation is equal to sp3d2, with octahedral geometry. ... The developing view is that there is little to no d-orbital involvement in the bonding of hypervalent molecules like SF6. The d-orbital is just too high in energy to be useful.
