Q. Atomic radius generally increases on moving down the group give reasons.
Answer :-
Due to increase in number of shells
Atomic radius :- The distance between the outermost shell of an atom to the nuclear of an atom is called atomic radius.
When Atomic radius generally increases on moving down the group give reasons because one extra shell is added when we move downward along a group.
Reason:-
The distance between the outermost shell and nucleus increases due to the addition of one extra shell.
See :-
Na (11) → 2 , 8 , 1
3 shell
K (19) → 2 , 8 , 8 , 1
4 shell
As we can see when we move downward along a group there is increase in number of shells and thus atomic radius increases.
