The postulates of Dalton's Atomic Theory are-
- Atoms are the smallest particle of an element
- Atoms can neither be created nor be destroyed in a chemical reaction.
- All atoms of the same element has same size, mass and properties.
- Atoms of different elements have different sizes, masses and properties.
- Atoms combine in small simple whole numbers to form molecules.
Contradictions of the atomic theory
- Atoms are not the smallest particle of an element. Atoms are composed of electrons, protons, and neutrons.
- All atoms of same element do not have same masses. ( isotopes )
- Atoms of different elements may have same masses. ( isobars )
- Atoms may also combine in complex numbers to form molecules. For example, sucrose.
