to know this u have to know the structure of a mitochondrion. it has a membrane outside and a matrix inside. it has a space between the matrix and membrane . after digestion the nutrients through osmosis ( simple mixing in cells) goes into cells ,then it goes into the mitochondrion through membrane. the nutrient molecules get stuck in the matrix . there are particles moving in matrix. when the particles hit the nutrient molecules it forms atp( it was adenosine diphosphate, then). when ever energy is needed atp again divides into adp and the cycle continues
