Vertebrates :

• The nerve cord of vertebrates are dorsal and hollow.

• Their heart is ventral.

• Their epidermis is formed by many layers.

• Haemoglobin is present in vertebrates inside the RBCs.

• Cranium is present in vertebrates called craniata.

• Endoskeleton is present which is formed of cartilage or bones.

• Their alimentary canal end which anus.

• Their skin is covered by hairs and feathers.

Sub-phylum vertebrata is divided into six classes :

1. Chondruchthyes

• Chondron - Cartilage; ichthyes - fish
• Example - sharks, sawfishes and electric fish etc.

2. Osteichthyes

• Osteon - bone; ichthyes - fish
• Example - Lung fish, catla and hippocampus etc.

3. Amphibia

• Amphi - both; bios - life
• Example - Fringe and toad etc.

4. Reptilia

• Reptare - to creep
• Example - crocodile, flying dragon and turtle etc.

5. Aves

• Avis - bird
• Example - Pigeon, ostrich and Kiwi etc.

6. Mammalia
