The values we learn from this chapter are love, faith and trust.These qualities are imparted by God, the all mighty.
Nicola and Jacopo were hard working and collected money for their sisters treatment. They faced many difficulties but never lost hope.

They loved their sister and that encouraged them to do many jobs like hawking newspapers, selling fruits, shining shoes, running erands and what not.They never spent money on themselves, which shows how selfless they are.

At the surface level, the boys appeared to be friendly, fun loving and childish. But, gradually the author discovered that they were too mature to keep their private griefs safe.Moreover, they never showed their suffering in anyway.
Thus, they didn't lose hope and courage rather faced it.
