Hawking's father was a doctor who had become a specialist in tropical diseases & his mother was secretary at a medical research institute.After the war,the Hawking's family moved to London & later in 1950 to st.Albans in Hertfordshire.Stephen was the eight year old.Frank Hawking wanted his eldest son to join Westminster,one of the best private schools in the country.But for this,he would have to sit for a scholarship examination,as the fees were to high,even for a successful medical researcher.But has the day of the exam arrived,Stephen fell ill & the opportunity was lost.
