Hey mate ! Here's your answer
Hughie is the main character in the story. Hughie was a very good looking man who had no profession.Whatever he tried doing dis not bring him success. He was friendly and everyone liked him.He wanted to marry Laura Merton ,the daughter of a retired colonel .But the colonel said that he should have ten thousand pounds to even think of getting engaged to his daughter.Hughie was dejected. When he went to meet his friend Alan Trevor,he noticed that a beggar (Baron Hausberg) was posing as Trevor's model. The model seemed a real beggar with tattered clothes and shoes and piteous expression on his face.Hughie was not insensitive to the beggar's pathetic state. He took pity on him and offered him a sovereign .It was an honest man's kind gesture.

Hughie Erskine is lucky in some areas, like looks and love, but unlucky in others, such as employment and riches. He is described as ''wonderfully good-looking'' and equally popular with men and women thanks to his sparkling personality. Hughie also shows a bit of pride and humility when he's eventually exposed as having given money to one of the wealthiest men in Europe.
