In the play merchant of venice , as Shylock was a jew and venice was the centre of christians so the jews were very ill treated by the venetian society as In the play merchant of venice Antonio the rich merchant was a christian and Shylock was a jew so there were many incidents shown in the play that Antonio used to speak ill of Shylock in the meetings of the merchants , Antonio once spat on Shylock because he was a jew and once Antonio called Shylock a dog and kicked him as a stray dog .
So at the last we know that Shylock was a money lender who used to lend money to people and charge interest on it which was against the rituals of the venetians so they hated him.
