Marks by which Atul fails = 86.

That means 400+86 = 40.5% then he would have been pass.

Hence 486 = 40.5%

Maximum marks would be = 100%

If 40.5% = 486 marks

then 1% = 486/40.5 = 12 marks. (unitary method)

Hence 100% = 12*100= 1200 marks.
