aurangzeb banned banned singing in court.was it because he was an orthodox ruler or where there some serious economic reasons that prompted him to take this step?

Mughal emperor Aurangzeb (1618 – 1707) was an orthodox Muslim ruler. He reigned for 49 years until his death in 1707. His religious intolerance brought about the ultimate demise of Mughal rule in India. His sole aim was to make Islam, the dominant religion in India.  

In keeping with austere, religious Islamic beliefs, along with ban on drinking, gambling etc., he banned music and singing in his kingdom.

there are two reasons behind it-

1- he considered singing as un-Islamic

2- maintaining court musicians was not economically possible
