Ausable did not fit any description of a secret agent Fowler had
ever read." What do secret agents in books and films look like, in
your opinion? Discuss in groups or in class some stories or movies
featuring spies, detectives and secret agents, and compare their
appearance with that of Ausable in this story. (You may mention
characters from fiction in languages other than English. In English
fiction you may have come across Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot,
or Miss Marple. Have you watched any movies featuring James
Bond?)

Answer:-

Ausable, the protagonist in the story The Midnight Visitor had the appearance of a fat and sloppy man; his accent was also weird. He did not fit any description of a secret agent Fowler had ever read.

Generally spies, detectives and secret agents look very smart, handsome and have perfect muscular figure. James Bond is a typical example of a perfect spy. Another striking name that appears in mind in this context is, Sherlock Holmes. Spies are not only physically very fit, but also mentally very alert. They outsmart their adversaries with their futuristic planning and never are vanquished even in the most adverse conditions.

Ausable might not be as fit physically as any famous spy, but his mental alertness was on par with the best of secret agents.
