Autobiography of a old letter box
Answers
Today, I am an almost forgotten old rusty metal box. I wonder how many of today’s generation kids will know me. There was a time when I was bright red and shiny. I was also busy every day of the week. People used to come to me to post letters to their loved ones far and wide through my narrow opening at the top. I also have a separate door at my bottom that only the postman can open. He used to open me and take all the letters in a sack to sort them out at the post office. I loved the thought of having so many letters inside me. Some of them used to be business or employment related letters. There was a huge assortment like postcards and inlands for people to communicate with others within India, aerogrammes to get in touch with people abroad and letters written on paper and sent in envelopes. Today, with emails, people have forgotten the art of letter writing and the personal charm of receiving handwritten letters has also dwindled. I have just about 15-30 letters in a couple of days. My red color has also gone and I look very dusty. No one cares to even clean me up.
