Autobiography of a
Spider
(Copied).
Let me introduce myself.
I am a spider of a light fawn
color. I have spun my silken web on a
dry black wood tree, which grows in
company, with many others in a vast
forest.
My chief food is flies of all descrip
tions. I also cat moths and mosquitoes.
I often enjoy myself by throwing my
web from a, branch of a tree to the
ground, and climbing up and down.
Now I have told you about myself,
let me tell you of an adventure I had
not so very long; ago. It was a damp
morning, and I was playing in my usual
way, when I heard someone laugh, and
presently two little girls came dancing
up to me.
"Oh," cried one, "look at that
spider." Now some people are afraid
of me, but if they only knew it, I am
much more afraid of them. I tried des
perately to climb up to my web, but
fear seemed to rob me of my Strength,
and then, before I knew it, one of the
girls picked up a stick from the ground
and broke my silken bridge, and I fell
to the ground.
I tried to make my escape through
tho dry leaves, but was not quick
enough, for the little girl picked up in
her hand and put mo in a bottle which
the other girl held.
She then screwed tho lid down on it.
I can't tell what would have happen
ed to me if my captor hud not tripped
over a stone on her way home, and
broken my prison open.
I was quick to hide myself under a
leaf, where the girl could not find me.
Luckily the girls had not gone far,
and I was able to find my way home. .
When I arrived there were several
flies caught in my web, and I soon made
a tasty meal.
I will say good-bye now, for I think
I can hoar some flies trying to make
their escape from my web.
