My name is chickpea. I am also called gram, Bengal gram or chana. I am a legume and have a lot of protein. I was born on a plant which was 20 - 50 cm high and had feathery leaves on either side of the stem. I was inside a seedpod with two more peas.

When I was ripe enough my master picked me up and gave me to his wife. She soaked me in water for nearly 24 hours. Then she put me in the pressure cooker and cooked for some time. In the meantime she prepared the gravy. When the steam was out and she could open the cooker, she took me out and put me and my friends into the gravy. We enjoyed playing with all the spices and gained a lovely aroma.

She took us out in a dish and placed it on the table. The master was very pleased to see the dish and loved the delicious aroma. To my great delight, I was the lucky one to be chosen to be tasted first.
