I am a very big classroom in a well-known public school. I cater to needs of the kindergarten class of the school, accommodating I think about eighty five children, a big number isn’t it? I understand that I am the best looking room in the school as, the very small children study here. I am very attractively decorated so that the little ones like to come here every day. The room that is me – is decorated with beautiful coloured pictures.

As I continued to observe the class, I was in awe of the remarkable learning community that existed in the classroom. The students not only respected Mrs.Allen but also respected each other’s feelings, viewpoints and ability levels. I knew right away that I wanted the same environment in my classroom. I asked Mrs.Allen how she created such a classroom and she explained that it did not happen overnight and that it took much work. She explained the activity that most united her class was their Class Autobiography that I read earlier. So that day I decided that in every class I ever teach I will begin the year with a Class Autobiography to create a productive learning environment. I think that environment should encourage students of all races, genders and socio-economic backgrounds to feel free to express their hopes, dreams and fears in my classroom.
