Autobiography of a school library
- The XYZ School situated on Camac Street has a big table tennis room, which had been empty for days since the day the new table tennis indoor hall was inaugurated in the school.
- That is when a professor suggested converting the empty room into a library, and I was born. The room that was always occupied by children shouting, the noise of the ball hitting the racket was now a quiet place where even a pin drop, could be heard.
- I had white tables with blue borders, white tiles, and dark blue cupboards with glass doors that were all stacked up with books arranged according to their genres and subjects.
- For a few months, it was disappointing to hear people recalling how they played table tennis in me, no one appreciated my beauty. But one fine day, an eminent writer came to promote her new book in the school and sold 250 copies of her book to the school which was secured in my cupboards. All the students rushed to the library to read the books in me, and I was never lonely for the next few weeks. In the process, students and teachers started liking spending time with me.
- I have witnessed secrets from the whisper of students, silent cries that were not vented out in public, new friendships based on simple interests, and even students bunking their classes and finding their escape in me.
- I feel like a family here with the smell of new books, the students, and the librarian who takes care of each part of me as a guardian. Books might get changed but, I will live forever, and the bookworms will always find their way to me.
