Answer:

Explanation:

Let the mother's age be x years and his son's age be y years .

Now,

According to the question ,

Average of their ages is 28 years

i.e., ( x + y ) / 2 = 28

x + y = 56

x = 56 - y --------------(1)

And , Ratio of their ages is 3 : 1

i.e., x : y = 3 : 1

→ x / y = 3 / 1

→ x = 3y

→ 56 - y = 3y ___ [ From (1) ]

→ 56 = 4y

Putting y = 14 in eq(1) , We get

x = 56 - 14 = 42

Hence,

The mother's age is 42 years and his son's age is 14 years
