Let the measurement of length be x
1st case:
If two points adjacent, distance=x
2nd case:
If two points on diagonal,length= root(2x^2)
Now their sum= x + 2x^2
2( x/2 + x^2)
Average= 2(x/2 + x^2)/2
x/2 + x^2
