The sum of 9 consecutive even numbers is = 9 × 30 = 270

Let smaller odd number be x,

According to the question

x + x + 2 + x + 4 + x + 6 + x + 8 + x + 10 + x + 12 + x + 14 + x + 16 = 270

⇒ 9x + 72 = 270

⇒ 9x = 270 – 72

⇒ 9x = 198

⇒ x = 198/9

⇒ x = 22

∴ Smallest even number is 22

Solution:

Let x, x+1, x+2, x+3, x+4, x+5, x+6, x+7 and x+8 are be the 9 consecutive numbers

As we know average = (Sum of observation)/number of observations

Average of 9 numbers =( x+x+1+x+2+x+3+x+4+x+5+ x+6+x+7+x+8)/9

⇒ (9x + 36)/9

Given average of 9 consecutive number is 33

⇒ (9x + 36)/9  = 33

⇒ 9x + 36 = 297

⇒ 9x = 261

⇒  x = 29  

Therefore, the 9 consecutive numbers are 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36 and 37  

The largest number is 37
