Question :

Average of n numbers is 58. if each of 65% number is increased by 9 and each of remaining is decreased by 11. Find the new average.

Answer :

New average is 60.

Given :

Average of n numbers = 58

65% number is increased by 9

Each of remaining is decreased by 11.

To find :

The new average

Solution :

Let the total number be 100

Average is 58

Total = 100 × 58 = 5800

65% of 100 = 65

Total increase in 65 numbers = 65 × 9

= 585

Total decrease in the rest (100-65) = 35 numbers

= 35 × 11

= 385

Total increase in 100 numbers = 585 - 385

= 200

Now, total = 5800 + 200 = 6000

Hence, new average = 6000/100

= 60

New average is 60.
