As mentioned that avi wore cotton shirt during winters. So as cotton shirts do not absorb much heat and do not let our body to get warm. So during winters, warmness is needed by our body to maintain the temperature of body but as avi wore cotton shirt so It doesn't let him to absorb heat that was needed by his body. Therefore when the temperature of his body decreased he fell ill.

As we know that in January is Winter season and cotton is not good to save from winter if a person wear a cotton shirt in winter season he will definitely feel cold by which he can cause by many diseases like cold, fever ,etc.
