‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎In a sentence, to say whether its subject performs the action or whether it receives the action, we define it with voices. In English Grammar, voices are of two types.

(1) ACTIVE VOICE:

A sentence is said to be in active voice if it's subject performs the action to the object. Look at the following sentence!

  • {{\underline{{\textsf{\textbf{\green{The\:lion\:chased\:the\:deer.}}}}}}}

In the above sentence, we can find that the subject is lion, and it does the action to the object (the deer), with the verb 'chased'. So it's in active voice as the subject does the action.

(2) PASSIVE VOICE:

A sentence is said to be in passive voice if the subject receives the action from the object. Now, let's find the passive voice of the example sentence of active voice (The lion chased the deer).

  • {{\underline{{\textsf{\textbf{\green{The\:deer\:was\: chased\:by\:the\:lion.}}}}}}}

Here, the object (the deer) performs the action to the subject (the lion) or we can say that the subject receives the action.

When the subject of a sentence performs the verb’s action, we say that the sentence is in the active voice. Sentences in the active voice have a strong, direct, and clear tone. Here are some short and straightforward examples of active voice.

A sentence is in the passive voice, on the other hand, when the subject is acted on by the verb. The passive voice is always constructed with a conjugated form of to be plus the verb’s past participle
