The narrator asked this question when she saw her grandmother crying , as she had never seen her grandmother cry so badly.

The narrator asked her grandmother when she came back from the cousins marriage from the neighbouring village.Her grandmother was crying as she was unable to read and understand her favouite serial magazine 'Kashi Yatre' by triveni.The grandmotherwas too sad and disappointed as she can do anything but cannot read and was too dependent on her granddaughter.
