In 1925, Naidu presided over the annual session of Indian National Congress at Cawnpore (now Kanpur). In 1929, she presided over East African Indian Congress in South Africa. She was awarded the Kaisar-i-Hind Medal by the British government for her work during the plague epidemic in India.

Sarojini Naidu was the first women of India to become a president of the Indian National Congress. She was also the first woman to become the governor of a state in India. She is regarded as the Nightingale of India. She was one of the famous writers in English in India. She has written many poems, stories and was one of the activists in the freedom of India.

She was awarded 'Hindi Kesari Medal' in 1928.
