Given that :
ax+by = a–b....(1)
bx–ay = a+b....(2)
Multiplying by a in equation (2) and by b in equation (1)
abx+b²y = ab–b²......(3)
abx–a²y = a²+ab.......(4)
On subtracting :
(a²+b²)y = –(a²+b²)
=> y = –1
On putting the value of y in equation (1)
ax+b×(–1) = a–b
=> ax–b = a–b
=> ax = a => x = 1
Thus, required value of x = 1 and y = –1
