simplify both sides of the equation.

2 \times 2 - 8x + 5 = 0 \\ 4 +  - 8x + 5 = 0

( - 8x) + (4 + 5) = 0 \:  \: (combine \: like \: terms) \\  - 8x + 9 = 0

 - 8x + 9 = 0 \\

subtract 9 from both sides.

 - 8x + 9 - 9 = 0 - 9 \\  - 8x =  - 9

Divide both sides by -8.

 \frac{ - 8x}{ - 8}  =  \frac{ - 9}{ - 8}

x =  \frac{9}{8}
