Answer:

(a) A healthy diet throughout life promotes healthy pregnancy outcomes, supports normal growth, development and ageing, helps to maintain a healthy body weight, and reduces the risk of chronic disease leading to overall health and well-being.

(b) Peristalsis Is the Contraction of Muscle Tissue That Helps Move and Break Down Foodstuffs. The walls of the alimentary canal include layers of smooth muscle controlled by the autonomic nervous system. Alternating contraction and relaxation of these muscles is called peristalsis.

(c) The small intestine is longer in herbivore than in carnivore because herbivores eat only grass which is full of cellulose and the digestion of cellulose takes a long time. ... Herbivores need a longer small intestine to allow cellulose to be digested as taken from green plants.

(d) Gastric glands in stomach release hydrochloric acid, enzyme pepsin and mucus. The mucus protects the inner lining of the stomach from the action of hydrochloric acid and enzyme pepsin. If mucus is not released, it will lead to erosion of inner lining of stomach, which may cause acidity and ulcer. Ultimately, mucus provides a protection against acids and enzymes in the stomach.
