b. A bus covers half the distance at a speed of 4 m/s and remaining half at a speed of 6m/s. Calculate the average speed of the bus.

first we need to find the time for first half , so let the distance be x then the time will be

speed=distance/time

so, 4=x/t then time will be

t= x/4

same will be done for the second half of distance

6=x/t'

now

t'=x/6

then the average speed will be

average speed= total distance/total time

average speed=x+x/x/4+x/6

=2x/ 3x+2x/12 by taking the Lcm

now

=2x  × 12 / 5x

=24x/ 5x

x will be cancelled  from both

and = 24/5 will be left

so the average will be equal to

=4.8 m/s
