Given :- A garden has 42 rose plants and 24 jasmine plants.

To Find :- The maximum number of columns, such that each column has the same combination of both types of plants .

Solution :-

In order to find the same combination of both types of plants we need to find the HCF of total rose plants and total jasmine plants.

So, prime factors of 42 and 24 are :-

→ 42 = 2 × 3 × 7

→ 24 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 3

then,

→ HCF = 2 × 3 = 6 .

therefore, we can conclude that, the number of plants in each columns are equal to 6 .

hence,

→ Total number of columns = Total plants / Plants in each column = (42 + 24)/6 = 66/6 = 11 columns (Ans.)

∴ the maximum number of columns, such that each column has the same combination of both types of plants are equal to 11 .
