Correct question:

A gas occupies 1L of volume at a temperature of 7°C under a pressure of 700mm of Hg . Find its volume at 27°C temperature and at under a pressure of 600 mm of Hg

Note : Bolded text it to be corrected!

Given:

  • A gas occupies volume of 1L at 7°C & at pressure 700mm of Hg

To find:

  • Volume of gas at a temperature of 27°C & at a pressure of 600mm of Hg

Solution:

As we know that

Any gas occupies 22.4L of volume at a temperatir of 0°C and pressure of 1atm = 760mm of Hg

Given,

1L is occupied at 7°C and at pressure of 700mm of Hg

Using

P₁V₁/T₁ = P₂V₂/T₂

Simplifying

V₂ = P₁V₁T₂/T₁P₂

Where

  • P₁ : Pressure of gas 1 = 700mm of Hg
  • P₂ : Pressure of gas 2 = 600mm of Hg
  • V₁ : Volume of gas 1 = 1L
  • V₂ : Volume of gas 2 = ?
  • T₁ : Temperature of gas 1 = 7°C
  • T₂ : Temperature of gas 2 = 27°C

Substituting the values we have

→ V₂ = 700 × 1 × 27/7 × 600

→ V₂ = 189/42

→ V₂ = 4.5

Hence, volume of other gas at 27°C and at pressure of 600mm of Hg = 4.5L
