In vessel, 3 parts are water, and 5 parts syrup.

So total it is divided in 8 parts.

So, water = 3/8 and syrup = 5/8

To make them equal, 1/2 = 4/8 of both water and syrup,

suppose we replace x part of liquid by water then,

and then both must be same.

water in drawn part : 3x/8 and syrup : 5x/8

After replacement : water = water before replacement - 3x/8(removed) + x(replaced)

syrup=syrup before replacement - 5x/8(removed)

To make them equal :

water before replacement + 5x/8 = syrup before replacement - 5x/8

So, syrup before replacement - water before replacement = 10x/8 = 5x/4

So, 5/8 part - 3/8 part = 5x/4

So, 1/4 part = 5x/4

So, x = 1/5 part
