During the process of fertilization the sperm fuses with the egg cell. The content of the sperm cell is transferred into the egg, to form the zygote. Hence, the product formed is a single celled zygote.

Answer:

Although two cells called gamete fuse during fertilization , the product formed is a single cell called zygote, because one of the male gametes fuses with the female gamete and forms the single cell that is zygote but the other male gamete fuses with the polar nuclei in the centre and forms the endosperm.
