Given data :

  • Ankit and Bhanu can complete the math summer project in 10 days and 15 days, respectively. They decided to work together during the vacation, but Bhanu left for a trip after some days. Then Ankit finished the remaining work in 5 days

Solution :

Here, a/c to given data;

➜ Ankit's one day's work = 1/10 ----{1}

➜ Bhanu's one day's work = 1/15 ----{2}

Now, Ankit and Bhanu's one day work;

➜ Ankit + Bhanu = {1/10} + {1/15}

➜ Ankit + Bhanu = {(1 * 15)/(10 * 15)} + {(1 * 10)/(15 * 10)}

➜ Ankit + Bhanu = {15/150} + {10/150}

➜ Ankit + Bhanu = {(15 + 10)/150}

➜ Ankit + Bhanu = 25/150

➜ Ankit + Bhanu = 1/6 ----{3}

Here, we know that, Ankit finished the remaining work in 5 days;

{a/c to given data}

Hence,

➜ Ankit's five day's work = 5 * Ankit's one day's work

➜ Ankit's five day's work = 5 * {1/10}

➜ Ankit's five day's work = 5/10

➜ Ankit's five day's work = 1/2 ----{4}

To find out, the number of days Ankit and Bhanu worked together

➜ Ankit and Bhanu worked together= {Ankit's five day's work}/{Total work}

➜ Ankit and Bhanu worked together = {1/2}/{1/6}

➜ Ankit and Bhanu worked together = 6/2

➜ Ankit and Bhanu worked 3 days together
