Answer:
1. It is about a sad and terrible plight of being a Jew in the wrong place at the wrong time. Obviously, as a refugee, the couple has lost their home, their country and their identity. The melancholy feeling comes through strongly in the blues - a sad song.
2. The speaker feels mistreated and knows s/he doesn't belong. Throughout the poem, we get a better understanding of the situation they are in as the speaker is sad when s/he thinks about all of the memories they once had and what they could have in a place they will never call home again.Thier rights are denied so they can't do there again.
3. The role that the fish in the poem have is creating a strong image in our minds of the idea of freedom and how close they are from the speaker yet how far this is from reality. He is also jealous of birds because they can fly freely in the sky. Humans are alone left on earth.
