Given : BC = CA = 12 cm, angle BCA = 90°

To Find :  AB

Area of triangle

Solution:

Pythagoras' theorem: square on the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two perpendicular sides.

AB² = BC²  + AC²

=> AB² = 12² + 12²

=> AB² = 12²(1 + 1)

=> AB² = 12²(2)

=> AB = 12√2

Length of AB =  12√2  cm

Area of triangle = (1/2) * BC * CA

= (1/2)*12 * 12

= 72  cm²
