Yes, Bholi was an neglected child as when she was just ten months old she had fell off the cot and some part of her brain was damaged. Then when she was two years old she was attacked by small -pox due to withich her whole body except her eyes were affected and had deep black pock marks which made her look ugly. She wasn't able to talk until she was five and when she had finally learnt to speak she used to stammer due to which she was mimicked by other children and as a result she used to speak very little. she was never bathed, she was never given new clothes to wear, she was never taken good care of, oil was never rubbed on her matted hair. But everything changed when she was being taken to the school by her father. She was sent to school as her parents always thought that she was never going to find a bridegroom.
