Drought is generally defined as a period of continuous weather scenario in which the precipitation is below average levels.

*Vidharbha region receives rainfall from southwest monsoon, which brings 2,500 mm to 3,000 mm massive rainfall in western coast in June but it gradually decreases from west to east and upon reaching Vidharbha, it is only 750 mm average.This is a landlocked region so gets little rainfall.

 

*Under NDRF guidelines, special drought packages were also not provided to farmers of this region as drought-norms were not applicable for this region.

*Moreover, the water crisis situation has intensified the underground borewell industry which has drained the underground water levels and is now a severe ecological challenge also. Huge quantity of ground water also was wasted. The main crop, Cotton could not receive the requires irrigation water so its production was worst affected.
