______________
An adjective is a word that is used to add something to the meaning of a noun or a pronoun. It describes or qualifies a noun or pronoun.
Example: a clever girl; an Indian lady; hot tea.
The words clever, Indian and hot add something to the meaning of the nouns - girl, lady and tea respectively. They are called adjectives.
- Adjectives of quality: The adjective which tells us of what kind a person or a thing, is called adjective of quality. As they describe a person or thing, they are called descriptive adjectives. Adjective of quality answers the question 'of what kind'. e.g. old, rich, pretty, poor.
- Proper Adjectives: The adjectives which formed from proper nouns are called proper adjectives. e.g. Indian, American. Proper adjectives always begin with a capital letter.
