thus as the size decreases it is more difficult to pull out an electron from its outer shell as nuclear force is strong thus ionisation potential increases.

ii) alkali metals tend to loose their electron and become stable as they achieve noble gas configuration.

loosing an electron means gaining a positive charge that means their oxidation no. increases, thus they undergo oxidation.

Ones undergoing oxidation are reducing agents.
