1. He is famous for his work on the laws of motion, optics, gravity, and calculus. In 1687, Newton published a book called the Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica in which he presents his theory of universal gravitation and three laws of motion.
2. Marie Curie is one of the most famous scientists that ever lived. Her contributions such as the discovery of Radium and other key elements help us out every day, especially when getting an x-ray. Manya,as she was called, was born Maria Sklodowska in Warsaw, Poland on November 7, 1867.
3. Jagadish Chandra Bose (1858-1937) was an Indian scientist who made significant contributions to many areas of science. He is well known for his work on the wireless transmission of information using microwaves. He also invented a device called a crescograph that could detect very small motions within plant tissues.
4. Raman was president of the 16th session of the Indian Science Congress in 1929. ... He did eventually win the 1930 Nobel Prize in Physics "for his work on the scattering of light and for the discovery of the Raman effect". He is the first Asian and first non-white to receive any Nobel Prize in the sciences.
5. Florence Nightingale is famous for her nursing work during the Crimean War (1854 - 56). She changed the face of nursing from a mostly untrained profession to a highly skilled and well-respected medical profession with very important responsibilities.
