During the development of embryo ,that along with placenta ,develops an structure called umbilical cord.It is long and thick cord that runs between the foetus (embryo) and the placenta.It is attached to the belly of foetus on one side and to the placenta n anther side.

c)Placenta acts as an endocrine gland.

Placenta secretes a number of proteins and hormones like Human chronic gonadtrophin (hCG),Human placental lactogen(hPL), Estrogen, Progestrone, Relaxln.

hCG,hPL and relaxin are produced in women only during pregnancy.
