This is a separating funnel consisting of a glass body and a tap at it's lower end .

The funnel is used to separate two immiscible liquids ; for example : oil and water .

The mixture is fed inside the funnel and sat still for some times until the layer of the different liquids get separated .

Then the tap is opened and the lowermost liquid layer is allowed to come out . The liquid coming out is taken in another beaker and the other liquid stays in the separating funnel .

In this way , two immiscible liquids can be separated using this apparatus.
