SOLUTION

GIVEN

  • Mike is having a barbeque.

  • He buys x packs of sausages and y packs of burgers.

  • The price of a pack of sausages is £2.

  • The price of a pack of burgers is £3.

TO DETERMINE

An expression, in terms of x and y, for the total price Mike pays.

EVALUATION

Here it is given that

Mike is having a barbeque.

He buys x packs of sausages and y packs of burgers.

The price of a pack of sausages is £ 2.

So price of x packs of sausages = £ 2x

The price of a pack of burgers is £ 3.

So price of y packs of burgers = £ 3y

So the total price of x packs of sausages and y packs of burgers = £ ( 2x + 3y )

Let £ z be the total price Mike pays.

So From above we get

 \sf{z = 2x + 3y}

Which is the required expression, in terms of x and y
