b) Ranjana has two unknown solutions: X, and Y. She performed certain tests with
indicators and observed the following:
(i) Solution X
phenolphthalein remains colourless.
(ii) Solution Y + sugar solution
Phenolphthalein turns pink.
(iii) Solution X + Solution Y
Phenolphthalein remains colourless.
Identify the nature of the solutions X and Y. Give one property for each of them.​
