Hii mate!!!
The first 10 seconds are crucial for every speech. If you go on the stage and the first thing you say is“ Good Morning everyone I am here to speak on this topic…”, the audience will go to sleep because that’s what majority of the speakers will start their speech with, but not you.
To make the audience sit up and be attentive to what you are about to say, your opening should be interesting and creative. I can give you a few examples but your own creativity has no limits :
Start your speech with a joke related to the topic.
Narrate a short story leading up to your title.
Begin with a quote/poem.
Dress up in an unusual manner. (Only if the competition rules allow it)
Carry an object on stage that will catch the audience’s attention.
Tell an interesting fact or a stat to the audience.
Ask an interesting/ rhetorical question to the audience and ask for their views.
Remember that a strong opening will get you the audience's attention, speeches with strong openings are remembered for a long time. But, the rest of your speech should be strong enough to convert the attention of the audience into awe.
I hope this helps you, Cheers :)
